這是個非常簡單，不具備任何深奧理論的閱讀習慣。只要一說，保證任何人都會懂，任何人都會明白。什么叫斷句取義呢？顧名思義，先斷句，再取義；反之，沒有斷句，就不要取義。它有3層含義：第一層含義是指閱讀文章時應該先找出每個完整的句子，通過理解這些完整的句子來理解文章。第二層含義是指指閱讀文章時必須先找出每個完整的句子，才能去理解文章的意思。第三層含義是指只有先找出每個完整的句子，才有可能正確的把握文章意思。
現在好像很多朋友都已經開始做真題了，咱們就以真題中原題為例，探討下斷句取義的重要性吧。2004年度第一篇文章的第43題：
43. The expression "tip service" (line 3, paragraph 3) most probably means ________.
[A] advisory
[B] compensation
[C] interaction
[D] reminder
其所對應的原文第三段如下：
For any job search, you should start with a narrow concept — what you think you want to do — then broaden it. "None of these programs do that," says another expert. "There's no career counseling implicit in all of this." Instead, the best strategy is to use the agent as a kind of tip service to keep abreast of jobs in a particular database; when you get E-mail, consider it a reminder to check the database again. "I would not rely on agents for finding everything that is added to a database that might interest me," says the author of a job-searching guide.
這是個詞義題，估計不少朋友在做這道題的時候是這么思考的。首先找到該詞在原文中的位置，并標記好。然后開始理解句子“Instead, the best strategy is to use the agent as a kind of tip service to keep abreast of jobs in a particular database” 接著在心里將上述英語句子理解如下“相反，最佳策略是把搜索代理看作一種tip service，對某一特定資料庫的最新就業信息跟蹤理解”。估計經過反復的理解以后，你還是無法判斷出tip service含義。怎么辦呢？
試試我說的“斷句取義”吧。
首先把tip service所在的完整句子找到。Instead, the best strategy is to use the agent as a kind of tip service to keep abreast of jobs in a particular database; when you get E-mail, consider it a reminder to check the database again.應該注意的是，這里有個分號，意味著這個完整的句子中包含兩個分句，而按我們平常的閱讀習慣，幾乎只要有停頓就會馬上停下閱讀英語，開始在心里翻譯和理解。但是我們按照“斷句取義”的指導思想來理解這個完整的句子，就應該把這個完整的句子都讀完后再翻譯、理解。這樣就會得出：“相反，最佳策略是把搜索代理看作一種tip service，對某一特定資料庫的最新就業信息跟蹤理解；當你收到電子郵件時，你就把郵件當作一種提醒（reminder）再去查一查資料庫。”這樣理解以后，很容易就能得出一個結論，tip service= reminder。這個題目的答案也就不需要再做任何的思考和解釋了。
這樣的命題在歷年真題中還不鮮見。有些雖然不是直接與命題有關，但是如果我們能在現階段養成斷句取義的閱讀習慣，都將給我們閱讀題的理解和解答帶來好處。
